My sister sent me this delightful picture book, InDognito: A Book of Canines in Costumes by photographer/designer Karen Ngo.
I am not one to put my dogs in costumes. It’s already hard enough for me to imagine just how itchy it must be to have fur, hehe. But one time I bought a red tank top for Bruno and he looked cute in it in a canine Johnny Bravo kind of way but the husband said he won’t ever walk a dog in a costume (on the dog, not the husband). That effectively put the brakes on my non-existent up-and-coming career as a dog stylist.
Anyway, the book is a pleasure to flip through. Ms. Ngo obviously has a wonderful way with pets and however you feel about putting dogs in costumes, you have to admit she really upped the adorableness factor in these.

~ I dare you to resist that face! ~

~ or these ~

~ or this … uh … forlorn-looking one ~

~ witty quotes are sprinkled throughout the book ~

~ absolutely adorably cute ~
There you go. Didn’t I tell you it was delightful? And I haven’t even included some of the most charming images in there.
But wait! (as infomercials put it)
What does our in-house dachshund Bruno think of all these?

Yep. He’s The Maaaaan.

I’ve been known to dress our big dog up for Halloween. He’s been a soccer player, a dragon, a bee, and a WWI flying ace. Plus, I’ve put various hats on him over the years. But only long enough to get a photo. It’s my revenge for him hogging the sofa and bed all the time!
The hilarious image of Biggles the flying ace has been permanently imprinted on my mind.
I like the last picture the best! Really… to each his own, but if you try to put a costume on me, I’m gonna pee on your leg.
Hahaha! Wouldn’t want to risk getting that from a malamute.
Thank you for this post! I love the photos of the dressed up dogs. And I would have loved to see Bruno in a red tank top!
Thanks, Angeline. We have a couple of pictures of him wearing it but I don’t have his permission to post it.
What a fun post,Tita. When I was a kid I used to dress up my cats. Sometimes while they were asleep I would create elaborate costumes and take pictures of them without even waking them. I was visiting San Francisco last month and had underpacked. I had to make an emergency run to a Ross Dress for Less, and I was surprised to find a whole display of costumes there, which I thought at first were for babies. On second glance I saw that it was for pets! Made me laugh.
I know what you mean! The variety of dog outfits and costumes is amazing. It used to be that we had to improvise on halloween costumes but now there are ready-made fireman outfits, sports jerseys, and raincoats. (I’m actually considering getting that last one for Bruno, hehe.)
poor dogs. They really look unhappy. I don’t understand why people force these hideous outfits on them
Oh, it’s all in good fun, KatZ and I think only a minor inconvenience on the dog when done only once in a while and quickly.
Awe. I remembered Tiny, our late Shih Tzu dog. We used to put ponytail on her, and she looks too cute! But we never dressed our dogs with outfits like these. Other dogs seemed uncomfortable in it.
I don’t think I’ve encountered a Shih Tzu without a ponytail.
I can imagine that it’s uncomfortable for a dog to be in a costume or outfit but once in a while for just a quick “photo shoot” seems ok as long as the outfit is not heavy or too elaborate or warm for the dog. What I don’t get are pet owners who dress their chihuahuas every single day. Guess we can blame Paris Hilton for the trend.
so so cute dogs!! Like them a lot!
Thanks, Cedric!
Adorable doggies! Bruno is the cutest of them all! And the smartest too from the looks of it
He’s proud and sensible, that’s for sure. Now if only there’s still something I can do about the barking…
Picture #3. The dog appears to be a highly unwilling participant. His eyes as if telling me “really?!? what righteous indignation.” Poor baby. all the other ones are too cute! You can tell some dogs like the limelight.
By the way, how did the froyo go?
The Mr. ate all the mangoes. Too late the hero ako, haha. Bumili pa naman na ako ng yoghurt (though not the greek type). Have to try this weekend ulit. It’s so warm here now.
Haha, the forlorn-looking one? I think that’s also the dog posing as a pharaoh. I guess it’s the blossom costume he hates.
Tita cute post. I always dressed my kitties when I was young. Lots of scratches. We had a doxie named Dutchie and I was always dressing her in baby clothes. Bruno does look macho but a little resigned or just sleepy. Love Bruno’s feeties. The little beagle at the top is a cutie.
I remember taking that picture on a Sunday when Bruno seemed soo bored because he kept “sighing” audibly, hehe.
Doxies (and beagles) are just too adorable! I’m sure Dutchie was well-loved.
Loving your post – ha!
Thanks, Renee!
Super cute naman neto!
I love photo # 2. super fashionable na tlga mga dogs ngaun
We went to Bonifacio HighStreet once and almost every dog there was wearing an outfit! Iba-iba pa talaga. Bruno kept barking at all of them so we left quickly, haha. I guess my dog is not only anti-social but anti-costume as well.
hahaha kulet naman ni Bruno..
Parang may sariling isip tlga! Parang tao lang.
Hi Tita Buds! First of all, thank you for following my blog. It really made me happy!! I rarely receive visits, hits, comments and followers. So new additions are like an achievement for me. I hope you won’t regret following me.
The last picture is for the win!!! The expression and the comment were perfect for each other. Winner!
Thank you, says Bruno, hehe.
Hey, I know how you write and what you write about. I don’t think I’ll ‘regret’ following you.
Bruno is adorable, I love his oversized ears.
