Thanks! My sisters and I grew up dancing to her songs (and the Bee Gees, too, hehe) so in a way she was part of our childhood. No More Tears was one of the first ‘adult’ songs I learned to sing.
Judging from recent videos of her performances, it seems she never lost her great voice till the end. Her music was part of our childhood and it was sad to know she’s gone.
I goofed. Robin Gibb died today – not Barry. I recently wrote a blog about The B.G.’s music featured in the movie “Saturday Night Fever.” Although, I’m more of a rock ‘n’ roll fan, I also loved Donna Summer’s music. A great loss.
It’s crazy how the two of them died less than a week apart and they were not just two of the better-known or more popular figures from the dance club era but were in fact THE most popular and best known (Robin of course along with his brothers). I still dance to Donna Summer songs as well as that of the Bee Gees.
TIta, I still can’t believe Donna Summer is gone. I love her voice and then Robin Gibb… I thought he was getting better. I will listen to both the Bee Gees and Donna Summer forever. Their music was a huge part of my teen years.
Their music was pretty much all you could hear in our house back then, along with the Beatles. My parents loved Donna Summer’s version of ‘MacArthur’s Park’ and my sisters and I would put on ‘No More Tears’ and had longest-sustained-note contests. Donna Summer’s voice was truly exceptional and she still had it even in recent years.
My husband and I are still fans of the Bee Gees’ music, but I prefer their dance tracks while he likes the slower ones.
I’m listening to my favorite as I comment. It’s “Walk Away”. At 63 I grew up listening & love the music put out by Donna Summer. These days I’m condensing my old record selection so I own just her greatest hits album. That and the greatest hits of Abba will carry me a long way. Bob
I love Abba’s music! We were able to watch the stage musical ‘Mamma Mia’ and by the end of it, people were dancing on the aisles. It’s great driving/cleaning/cooking music because it gets you moving..
My favorite is She Works Hard for the Money!
So you’d better treat Jen right, Rumpy! Hehe.
We did a lot of dancing to that one in high school.
Have a Great Weekend – Great Post:)
Thanks, Renee.
I am going to miss Donna Summer. I loved Last Dance. Each time I hear her sing she makes me smile! On the Radio, woohoo! Smilin’ good post Tita!

I never was a great fan of disco but she was the best in what she did. I felt sorry when I read the news. Good bye, Donna!

We lost two great talents from the disco era in the past two days: Donna Summer and Barry Gibb. Their songs bring back so many wonderful memories.

Truly a great loss!

I have a modest music collection of over 100 albums and that Abba album gets played more than any other.
As it should be.
