He’s thousands of miles away and I really miss him. It’s his birthday today though and this is my annual Bruno’s Birthday post.

We’re the exact same age now, haha (Bruno in dog years, me in human) but despite a few physical signs of slowing down, his enthusiasm for the world has not waned. Everything is still a ‘wheee’ and a wonder for him and Jigs. It’s just one of the things they have (unknowingly) taught me. :)

Happy Birthday, my furry child. I’m bringing home pounds and pounds of tasty treats for you.

My sister sent me this delightful picture book, InDognito: A Book of Canines in Costumes by photographer/designer Karen Ngo.

I am not one to put my dogs in costumes. It’s already hard enough for me to imagine just how itchy it must be to have fur, hehe. But one time I bought a red tank top for Bruno and he looked cute in it in a canine Johnny Bravo kind of way but the husband said he won’t ever walk a dog in a costume (on the dog, not the husband). That effectively put the brakes on my non-existent up-and-coming career as a dog stylist. :D

Anyway, the book is a pleasure to flip through. Ms. Ngo obviously has a wonderful way with pets and however you feel about putting dogs in costumes, you have to admit she really upped the adorableness factor in these.

Drool Day: Bruno and Jigs Edition

Dear Human Mama,

While you’re taking your time sipping that coffee that you think tastes better than a Tasty Treat, we are taking over your blog. You see, we have a problem.

You know those pet ‘beds’ we’re supposed to sleep in? The ones that you think need to be washed often? Well, your washing them has made them not only un-smelly (which we hate), but worse, all clumpy and flat and twisted in the wrong places. That’s why we keep booting you out of your bed at night. (Really, Mama, try sleeping on the floor the whole day.)

So here’s the thing: we need new beds. And we’re now presenting you with these options. (Please note that they are all obviously easy to clean and will match our existing furniture — we know you love them matchy-matchy things).

6 Years of Cold Noses

It’s his birthday. Everything else takes a backseat.

Every morning, after he comes back from his walk, this dachshund goes to my side of the  bed and touches his nose to mine. He does not turn away until I reach out to pat his head and whisper “Hello, Bruno, good morning”. Then he pads off to his dog bed and goes back to sleep.

He’s been doing this since he was a puppy.

Happy birthday, my boy. I wish you knew that I will never tire of everything you do. Well, except for the barking part, but no dog can be perfect.

A Dog’s Prayer

Because we’re just about to run out of chicken jerky tenders…

Mention the words bread sticks or tasty treat and you get different reactions from my dogs. Bruno knows he is Top Dog and calmly sits. (He always gets the treat first.)

Jigs, our mini pinscher, chooses to work for his share. He jumps up and down, his eyes bulging and starts to HOWL. I guess that’s how it is when you’ve got the stomach of a whale.

Sam, Bobo and Jigs

If you’ve seen the  PetSmart Bobo Commercial from four years ago, you know that the pink stuffed thing beside Sam is a dog toy.

It used to be Bruno’s. Or was really meant for Bruno. I saw the ad a few years back, thought it was so charming and bought the toy for my dog. Unfortunately, in his excitement he stepped on it and the toy let out a loud squeeeeek. Bruno ran as far away from Bobo as he could and never went near it again.  I tried giving it to Jigs but got the same reaction.  It’s been languishing inside a box for two years.

Last month, I showed the old commercial to Gianna and Sam. The two girls asked if they could have the dog toy, so I got it washed and handed it to Sam this morning. The little girl is so thrilled she carries Bobo everywhere. She loves to brandish it as she walks.

So all day today, Jigs looked like this:
