Drool Day: 80s Film Alphabet

People, I need your help.

You might have seen this poster before but I came across it only today at The Bazaar and the Eighties teen still living inside me has since been sitting cross-legged on her bed with her face all scrunched up, trying to will her middle-aged mind into identifying every film depicted herein.

Here’s what I’ve got so far: Coming to America, Dirty Dancing, ET, Ghostbusters, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Indiana Jones, Karate Kid, Nightmare on Elm Street, Labyrinth, Rambo and Teen Wolf.

Wait…isn’t that Emilio Estevez … ? … Waaah! Breakfast Club! Yes! (Sorry, my train of thought just took over.)

You know the feeling that you know you know something and you CANNOT rest until you remember what it is? Good. Help me then? (And because this is a fun challenge, can you ‘fill in the blanks’ without looking at the answers already submitted? ;))

While we’re at it, what other 80s movies do you think also deserve to be there? I vote Flashdance, Back to the Future, Say Anything, Pretty in Pink, and Some Kind of Wonderful. (Train of thought: Oh gaaaad, Andrew McCarthy and Eric Stoltz.)

Anyway, the print (by artist Steve Wildish)  is available for purchase (printed or as a downloadable file) at The Bazaar. I want it. It’ll be the perfect conversation piece when high school friends come over. I’ll watch them get stumped, too, as I put Moment of Truth and Billie Jean on repeat. 🙂

More Drool Days here.

Update: It’s been pointed out that B is in fact Back to the Future, not Breakfast Club. That oh-so-eighties jacket confused me and I really thought it was Emilio (yes, we are on first name basis, haha!).

  1. Airplane, Back to the Future (not Breakfast Club), Coming to America, Dirty Dancing, E.T., Flight of the Navigator, Ghostbusters, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Indiana Jones, Jumping Jack Flash (I think, at least something similar), Karate Kid, Labyrinth, M?, Nightmare on Elm Street, Octopussy, Princess Bride, Q?, Rambo, Short Circuit, Teen Wolf, Xanadu (maybe?) That’s all I got off the top of my head. Good luck!

  2. Bubbawheat! Off the top of your head? Wow! At first I felt I needed this poster but after you mentioned which films you’d add I’m inspired to make my own poster with the 80s films I love … Of course most of them are here!

  3. Well, for sb. that was allegedly too busy in the 80s to watch movies, I could identify quite a few. I didn’t think I’d get 3 🙂
Airplane; Back to the Future; Coming to America; Dirty Dancing;. E.T.; F. had no idea, husband told me it was Flight of the Navigator; Ghost Busters; H – no idea, dear husband doesn’t know either; Indiana Jones; I thought it was Footloose, only wrong letter hahaha; Karate Kid; L, no idea – it looks like Charlie Sheen in his crazy hair days hahhaa; Mannequin; Nightmare on Elm Street, dear husband tells me; O, I figured was a James Bond movie, husband tells me it’s Octopussy; P. no clue neither of us; husband had to know Q, of course: Q, the Winged Serpent; Rambo; again dear husband says S is Short Circuit and that that was Number 5, I asked, Channel? hahahaha; Teen Wolf, again from husband; The Untouchables; V, no idea; Weird Science, says dear husband; Xanadu; Youngblood, again, hubbie; and Z….. Zzzzzzharry Potter? hahaha

  4. I think there are six that I didn’t know (and a few that I still don’t know now that I’ve heard the title, particularly F). A couple that I wanted to smack myself for not knowing until I read the answers, like A. How many times I have I watched that film! Even recently! Lots of fun, though, and a trip down memory lane. 🙂

  5. The only one I can’t figure out now is P (Porky’s?)
but I believe those are Judge Reinhold & Fred Savage in Vice Versa.

    • Vice Versa it is. 🙂
I don’t think that’s Porky’s. Porky’s was similar to those Israeli coming-of-age movies we used to watch at the Maya Theater, haha. Someone said it’s Princess Bride? (Didn’t see that movie so I can’t say.)

      • Kenneth agrees that it’s Princess Bride. I thought that may be Mandy Patinkin but his friend Justin says that’s Andre the Giant.

  6. Really cool poster and game! I can only identify the ones you already did but I think ‘B’ is Back to the future. it’s the “marty McFly” vest that gave it away. hehe
    Plus Octopussy and Short Circuit.

It’s nice to see you on this side of cyberspace once again.

    • Thanks, Janis! Some of the movies did not really make their mark here in Pinas and it seems the ones we were able to easily identify were the ones that did.

Oh! I remembered just now that I only watched Short Circuit because of the song Who’s Johnny by El Debarge, hahaha.

  7. V???

I did a search and here are the movies for the 80s that start with the letter V. Valet Girls, Valley Girl, Vibes, Victor/Victoria, Videodrome, A View to a Kill, Vision Quest and Voyage to the Rock Aliens.

    I still have no clue:(
